Evaporation
Evaporation is the process by which a liquid, such as water, changes from its liquid state to a gaseous state, usually due to an increase in temperature. It is a key component of the water cycle, where water is continuously exchanged between the Earth’s surface and the atmosphere. When the sun’s energy is absorbed by a body of water, it causes the water molecules to gain energy and become more active. This increased energy allows the water molecules to break free from the liquid and escape into the air as water vapor. Evaporation plays a significant role in cooling the Earth’s surface and regulating the distribution of heat and moisture in the atmosphere. It is also an essential process for the formation of clouds, as water vapor rises and condenses to form cloud droplets.
