Ice Storm

An ice storm is a severe weather event characterized by the accumulation of freezing rain, resulting in a coating of ice on surfaces such as trees, power lines, roads, and buildings. It occurs when there is a layer of below-freezing air near the surface and a layer of warmer air above it. Precipitation falls as rain from the warmer layer and then freezes on contact with the cold surface, creating a glaze of ice. Ice storms can have significant impacts, as the accumulation of ice on trees and power lines can lead to widespread power outages, damage to infrastructure, and hazardous travel conditions. The weight of the ice can also cause tree branches to break and can result in property damage and injuries. Ice storms are typically associated with winter weather conditions and occur in regions where there is a combination of freezing temperatures and moisture in the atmosphere.
